Powers John's Lane Release 12 Year Old Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey is Midleton's heavy-cut pot still: malted and unmalted barley, triple-distilled in copper, twelve years in first-fill bourbon barrels with a little oloroso sherry, non-chill-filtered at 92 proof (46% ABV). Unmalted barley is why the texture is oily and the spice reads earthy. An after-dinner dram.
Leather, tobacco, and dark chocolate lead, with treacle toffee underneath. Vanilla, honey, and dried apricot stand out on the palate; the body is full and rolling, and the finish lingers on honey, bitter chocolate, and toasted oak.
