Russell’s Reserve Single Rickhouse Camp Nelson E Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey
New charred American oak did the work here, and the barrels were left to it. This is a single rickhouse bourbon, drawn from one warehouse in Kentucky and bottled at cask strength, undiluted, exactly as the wood left it.
Dark cherry and caramel lead, thick and sweet, before tobacco pulls the whiskey somewhere drier and more serious. Vanilla runs underneath the whole pour. At 128 proof (64% ABV) the texture is dense rather than hot, and the close is all pepper and seasoned oak, holding long after the sweetness has gone. A few drops of water open the fruit without softening the frame.
The 2025 release, in 750 mL. Bottlings like this come around once and are gone.
