Russell’s Reserve Single Rickhouse Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey
Caramel and vanilla come first, thick and warm, the kind of sweetness that coats rather than flashes. Underneath sits dark cherry, and behind that a curl of tobacco that keeps the whole thing from turning soft. Cinnamon and seasoned oak carry the finish long after the sweetness has faded.
This is a Kentucky straight bourbon drawn at cask strength, 112.4 proof (56.2% ABV), with ten years in new charred American oak at Camp Nelson Rickhouse C. Whiskey from a single rickhouse takes on the character of where it sat, and this one leans toward the darker, spicier end of the barrel spectrum.
Undiluted and unhurried, it holds up neat, though a few drops of water open the cherry and settle the heat without dulling the oak. The 750 mL bottle is a good weeknight pour for someone who likes a bourbon with real proof behind it.
