Seña 2013 Aconcagua Valley Red Wine
Chilean red blends don't get much more complete than this one. Seña draws on Cabernet Sauvignon, Carménère, Malbec, Merlot and Petit Verdot grown in the Aconcagua Valley, all farmed to certified organic standards. The 2013 harvest gave fruit with real depth, and French oak has smoothed the edges without covering anything up.
Blackcurrant and blackberry lead, dark and firm rather than jammy. Plum fills in behind them and softens the shape of the wine. Underneath sits cedar, with a graphite streak and a trace of cocoa that shows up on the finish. At 14.5% ABV it has weight, but the tannins stay fine enough that it doesn't feel heavy.
This is a red that drinks well now, especially with an hour open beforehand. The 750 mL bottle suits a table of four with something roasted in the middle of it.
