The Balvenie PortWood 21 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Twenty-one years in oak, then a spell in port casks to finish. That last stage is what shapes this Speyside single malt, softening the edges an older whisky can carry and drawing out a sweetness that feels warm rather than sugary.
Ripe fruit and raisin lead, dense and a little jammy, with honey running underneath and holding everything together. Nuttiness gives the palate some grip, and cinnamon flickers through toward the close alongside vanilla and a gentle spice that fades slowly. At 80 proof (40% ABV) the texture stays soft and rounded, easy to sip without any burn to work past.
This is the kind of bottle worth keeping within reach rather than saving for a date on the calendar — pour it neat, at room temperature, in a 750 mL bottle that will not feel precious after the first dram.
