The Balvenie The Week of Peat 14 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky is a limited Stories release that honors distillery manager Ian Millar's 2002 experiment: one week each year when Speyside peat, not hot air, dries the malt. Fourteen years in American oak keep honey and fruit in front while the peat rides as woodsmoke, bottled without chill filtration at 96.6 proof (48.3% ABV). Pour it in cold weather.
Honey, citrus, and vanilla open first, with peach, almond, and graham cracker behind them. Savory peat smoke and a little floral malt stand out on the palate; the mouthfeel is creamy and full, and the finish lingers on smoke, vanilla, and a gentle heat.
