The Glenlivet 18 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Eighteen years across first- and second-fill American oak alongside ex-sherry casks is what shapes this Speyside single malt. The two wood types pull in different directions and meet somewhere agreeable: the American oak lending sweetness and a soft, rounded weight, the sherry casks adding depth underneath.
Ripe citrus leads, brighter than the age would suggest, with pear sitting just behind it. Toffee thickens things through the palate, and there is a tropical fruit note that shows up more clearly the longer the whisky sits. Vanilla and baking spice trail the finish, warm rather than sharp.
At 86 proof (43% ABV) it drinks easily without water, which makes it a straightforward pour for a weeknight rather than something you save for an occasion. The 750 mL bottle is a sensible everyday Speyside to keep within reach.
