The Last Drop 56 Year Old Blended Scotch Whisky is a limited 732-bottle deluxe blend — more than 60% malt — whose youngest whisky was distilled in 1963 and bottled in 2019. Nearly twenty years in sherry butts, then about thirty in ex-bourbon casks, is what you taste as apricot and silk over vanilla, molasses, and a thread of smoke. Bottled at 94.4 proof (47.2% ABV). It is a winter-evening pour.
Smoke, vanilla, and apricot open, then tar, stone fruit, and cognac-like spice erupt through a texture as smooth as silk. Madeira, leather, and tropical fruit sit underneath. The finish turns delicately dry while staying remarkably fresh.
