The Last Drop 56 Year Old Blended Scotch Whisky
The Last Drop 56 Year Old Blended Scotch Whisky is Release 16 from the London independent bottler: 732 bottles of a deluxe-style blend whose youngest whisky was distilled in 1963. More than 60% of the vatting is single malt. The blend spent nearly 20 years in sherry butts, then about 30 years in four ex-bourbon casks, and was bottled in 2019 at 94.4 proof (47.2% ABV) without further dilution. Islay smoke, Speyside sweetness, and Highland depth share the same sip after that long second wood. An after-dinner dram.
Smoke, tar, and vanilla arrive together, with apricot and stone fruit giving the sip a brighter center. Cognac-like spice and molasses stand out on the palate; the texture is silk, and the finish turns delicately dry while staying remarkably fresh.
