The Macallan makes single malt in Speyside, and the Classic Cut is its higher-proof, no-frills expression. The 2022 release comes in at 105 proof (52.5% ABV), which gives it more weight and grip than the standard bottlings without turning hot.
Grapefruit shows up early, bright and a little bitter at the edges, and it keeps the caramel and vanilla underneath from going sweet. There is a light spice through the back half and a clean, polished oak note that lingers after the fruit fades. Maturation in sherry-seasoned American and European oak casks accounts for the depth of color and the dried-fruit weight sitting behind everything else.
This is a straightforward pour at cask-ish strength — good neat, and it holds up fine over ice if you want the citrus to come forward. The 750 mL bottle is an easy one to keep open on the shelf rather than save for a special night.
