Thomas H. Handy Sazerac Straight Rye Whiskey is Buffalo Trace's uncut, unfiltered Kentucky rye in the Antique Collection, named for the New Orleans bartender who put rye in the Sazerac. It matures in new charred American oak and goes to bottle at barrel strength, so heat, spice, and candied fruit stay concentrated. The annual release is tightly allocated. Pour a smaller measure and sip it slow.
Toffee, fig cake, and candied fruit open, then mint, cinnamon, and clove. Allspice, coconut, and nutmeg stand out on the palate; the sip is lush and boldly spicy, and the finish is long and warm.
