Uncle Nearest Single Barrel Premium Whiskey is one cask at a time from Nearest Green Distillery in Shelbyville, Tennessee — Victoria Eady Butler chooses roughly one percent of the warehouse, triple-filters the whiskey, and bottles it at cask strength of at least 108 proof so caramel, cherry, and baking spice stay undiluted. New American oak does the aging; the filtration is the house take on maple-charcoal smoothness. Give the filtration a quiet hour.
Caramel and cherry lead, with vanilla and toffee filling a satiny, warming sip. Baking spice and oak char stand out on the palate. Fruit, leather, and cinnamon hang on a long finish.
