Westland Cask No. 726 American Single Malt Whiskey is a single barrel from Westland Distillery in Seattle: one cask of the distillery’s five-malt American single malt, not a vatting across several woods. Pale chocolate and brown malts in that bill bring roasted grain and cocoa; specialty oak keeps the whiskey in one wood so those darker malts stay concentrated. Bottled at 92 proof. Give it a large cube.
Roasted malt leads, with dark chocolate and coffee standing out on the palate. Caramel sits underneath without turning syrupy. Citrus lifts the back of the sip, and the oak finishes dry. One cask, one read of Westland’s house malt.
