WhistlePig The Boss Hog IV The Black Prince Straight Rye Whiskey is the 2017 limited single-barrel rye: 14 years old, finished in French Armagnac casks, and bottled at cask strength, 119.2 proof (59.6% ABV). Distilled in Indiana from a 95% rye mash, it takes its name from Edward the Black Prince and the brandy country he raided; that Armagnac wood is why fig, plum, and apricot sit over high-proof spice. Best in Show whiskey at the 2017 San Francisco World Spirits Competition. Pour it as a slow, small dram.
Caramel, fig, and apricot lead, then clove, cinnamon, and brown sugar stand out on a thick, hot sip. Vanilla, dried fruit, and spicy oak linger long.
