WhistlePig The Boss Hog The One That Made It Around the World Straight Rye Whiskey is a rare B-side circumnavigation: eleven barrels of 17-year 100% rye sent through new Spanish oak, South American teakwood, and 7- and 10-year single-island Philippine rum casks, then rested in Andalucia. Spanish oak lays cinnamon and roasted nut, teak adds a sweet toasted spice, and the rum casks bring vanilla and tropical fruit onto barrel-proof rye. Twin pewter toppers mark Magellan and LapuLapu. An after-dinner dram.
Rye spice and dark caramel open, with vanilla and dried fruit behind them. Cinnamon, toffee, and tropical sweetness stand out on the palate; the sip is silky and strong, and the finish runs long on black pepper, molasses, and toasted wood.
