Widow Jane Lucky Thirteen is a Kentucky straight bourbon drawn from barrels sourced across Kentucky, Tennessee and Indiana, then bottled at 13 years old. Thirteen years in new charred American oak shows up as weight rather than heat, and the whiskey drinks easily at 93 proof (46.5% ABV).
Dark cherry and brown sugar sit together on the palate, sweet but not sticky. Vanilla runs underneath, and a thread of tobacco keeps the sweetness in check. Baking spice and mature oak carry the finish, dry and a little tannic, the kind of ending that makes you want another sip rather than a mixer.
This is a bourbon for a regular evening pour. It takes an ice cube without falling apart, and it has enough character to hold up in an old fashioned if that is where the night is going. Sold in a 750 mL bottle.
