Wild Turkey Master’s Keep Triumph 10 Year Old Straight Rye Whiskey
Straight rye can go two ways: bright and peppery, or deep and sweet. This one leans toward the second. Ten years in new charred American oak have rounded the grain, and what shows up in the glass is honey and dates before the spice ever gets a word in.
Dark chocolate and mocha sit underneath, giving the whiskey a richness that reads more dessert than dry grain. Clove threads through it. The rye spice is still there, sharp enough to keep everything honest, and oak and black pepper hold the finish for a good while at 104 proof (52% ABV). There is real weight here without heat that gets in the way.
A Kentucky rye that works as well after dinner as it does in an Old Fashioned, where the honeyed side comes forward and the pepper holds its shape. Bottled at 750 mL.
