Woodford Reserve Master’s Collection Chocolate Malted Rye Bourbon
Woodford Reserve Master’s Collection Chocolate Malted Rye Bourbon is the 2019 limited grain experiment, still a Kentucky straight bourbon: 70% corn, 15% chocolate-malted rye, and 15% distillers malt. Chris Morris roasted the rye malt until its sugars caramelized into cocoa, then aged the whiskey in new charred American oak so that dark-chocolate note deepened in the warehouse. Bottled at 90.4 proof (45.2% ABV). Save it for dessert.
Mocha, caramel, and roasted nuts open, with cedar and cherry behind them. Cocoa nibs, dark chocolate, and toasted rye grain stand out on the palate; the sip is dense and easy at this proof, and the finish lingers long, dry, and chocolaty.
