Woodford Reserve Master’s Collection Historic Barrel Entry Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey is the 2022 limited release, the 18th Master’s Collection: new-make entered the barrel at 100 proof, below Woodford’s usual 110, so more water in the cask could pull sweeter extractives from the red layer of new charred American oak. Chris Morris and Elizabeth McCall bottled it at 90.4 proof (45.2% ABV) in 700 mL. An evening pour.
Vanilla bean and dried apple lead, dusted with nutmeg, clove, and cinnamon. Overripe banana, cooked berries, and minty dark chocolate stand out on the palate; the sip is rich and rounded, and the finish lingers on charred oak, leather, and orange oil.
