A splash of this over one big cube is about right. At 101 proof (50.5% ABV) it has enough weight to stay whole through the ice, and the sweetness holds up in an Old Fashioned without extra sugar. Caramel and honey lead, with vanilla settling underneath and baking spice and oak firming things up toward the end.
The dark cherry is the part people notice. It comes from time in Amarone wine casks after the whiskey had already spent seven years in the barrel, and it gives this Kentucky bourbon a rounder, slightly jammy edge than a straight barrel-aged pour usually carries.
Distilled in 2021 and bottled at 750 mL, it is an easy bottle to keep on the shelf and reach for on a weeknight. Good neat if you want to taste the wine cask influence clearly, better on ice if you want it a little softer.
