A finishing period in Ruby Port casks sits at the center of this Kentucky bourbon, and it shows in the weight of the liquid. The Port has done more than tint the whiskey; it has pulled the fruit forward and softened the grain underneath without smoothing away the char.
Dark cherry leads, deep and a little jammy, with vanilla and caramel filling in behind it. Baking spice keeps things from turning sweet, and the finish leans on toasted oak and Port fruit together, warm and long. At 119.8 proof this is undiluted barrel strength, so the texture is thick and the heat is real. A few drops open it up considerably, though it holds together neat if you take it slowly.
