Angel’s Envy Limited Edition Rye Finished in Sauternes and Toasted Oak Barrels
Bottled at 104.2 proof (52.1% ABV), this Kentucky rye carries its weight easily. There is heat, but it sits behind the fruit rather than in front of it, and the whiskey opens rather than bites.
Floral fruit leads, bright and a little perfumed, before toasted vanilla settles underneath and gives the whole thing a soft, sweet floor. Clove and cracked pepper cut through that sweetness with the spice you want from rye. Underneath it all runs a green thread of herbal agave, picked up during time in French oak Extra Añejo tequila barrels, and the finish turns toward tobacco and brown sugar.
The 2025 release, in a 750 mL bottle. It drinks well neat, though the proof gives it enough structure to stand up in an Old Fashioned without disappearing under the sugar and bitters.
