Ardbeg Anthology The Unicorn’s Tale 14 Year Old Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Banana bread and treacle come first, warm and sweet enough to soften the smoke sitting behind them. Then lime cuts through, bright and sharp, and the whole thing turns tropical before cedar settles it down again. There is a cool eucalyptus lift on the finish that keeps the sweetness from going heavy.
This is Islay single malt aged 14 years across Madeira and ex-bourbon casks. The Madeira influence shows in the darker, jammier side of the malt; the bourbon barrels keep the edges clean. At 92 proof (46% ABV) it drinks comfortably neat, with plenty of texture and no need to fight it.
Peat lovers will find the smoke woven through rather than sitting on top, which makes this an easy pour on a weeknight as well as a bottle worth opening for company. Comes in a 750 mL bottle.
