Benriach The Twelve 12 Year Old Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky
BenRiach The Twelve 12 Year Old Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky is the unpeated 12, and the port casks are why it is not just an older Original Ten. Spirit aged at least 12 years in sherry casks, bourbon barrels, and port is married at 92 proof, the color left as the wood left it. Sherry brings dried fruit and cocoa, port adds a jammy red-fruit sweetness, and bourbon keeps a toasted vanilla line under both. Rachel Barrie calls it BenRiach in autumn. Whisky Advocate scored the recipe 90 and called the mouth voluptuous.
Official notes run from maple honey, cocoa, and baked forest fruit to maraschino cherry, baked orange, and hazelnut, with sultana and spiced mocha lasting. Whisky Advocate tasted stewed fruit, orange peel, and lime, then honey, milky coffee, figs, and dried fruit, finishing on black currant, licorice, and lively spice. Distiller found the three woods readable as fruit and vanilla with a jammy streak, almond, orange peel, and ripe raspberry at the close. The body is full and the finish runs long.
