Blue Note 17 Year Old Tennessee Straight Bourbon Whiskey is a single barrel from B.R. Distilling in Memphis, aged at least 17 years and bottled unfiltered at barrel proof. The release is small, and each barrel leaves at its own strength. Those years in new charred American oak are what you taste: leather, herbs, and soft spice come forward, and the sweetness that remains is vanilla and melted chocolate, with the wood kept in balance.
Whisky Advocate, on barrel 12841, found saddle leather, mint, herbs, and vanilla, then melted milk chocolate and cinnamon. Another barrel showed caramel, chocolate, and dark fruit, with a rich mouthfeel and a finish that returns to vanilla and oak. Barrels differ, and the oak stays mature, with vanilla and chocolate still sweet.
