Blue Run High Rye Bourbon Whiskey
Blue Run High Rye Bourbon Whiskey is Blue Run Spirits’ small-batch bourbon, bottled at 111 proof. Jim Rutledge, the former master distiller at Four Roses, contract-distilled it at Castle & Key from 65% yellow corn, 30% rye, and 5% malted barley. The barrels took a level 4 char and aged in Frankfort and Bardstown. That much rye is the point: pepper and savory spice cut through caramel and oak, and at 111 proof the whiskey still drinks round.
Blue Run tastes caramel, baking spice, and toasted oak, then stone fruit and black pepper. Breaking Bourbon found rye spice, caramel, cinnamon, and toffee, with a malt undertone and a long finish of spice, caramel, and light tobacco. The label also shows brown sugar, white pepper, dried apricot, and peach.
