Buchanan’s Red Seal 21 Year Old Blended Scotch Whisky 80 Proof is the prestige blend in the Buchanan’s house, the modern heir of the Victorian recipe James Buchanan supplied to the British royal family. The blender holds back only the most exceptional barrels: Highland and Islay single malts, including the Dalwhinnie that Distiller names in the blend, married to mature grain whisky. Some of those whiskies are as old as 21 years. Buchanan’s says this recipe does not need an age statement, and the current U.S. bottle does not carry one. It is bottled at 80 proof, and the neck on today’s decanter is marked double aged.
Mandarin and apple lead a soft palate, with dried fruit and honey underneath and a gentle thread of smoke. Ginger and lime stay on the finish.
