Chattanooga Whiskey Russian River Pinot Cask Finished Bourbon Whiskey is the fifth limited release in the Barrel Finishing Series, a straight bourbon at 95 proof from the Riverfront Distillery. Six months of an age past 4 years were spent in Pinot Noir casks from the Russian River Valley, the cool, foggy part of Sonoma whose wines run to cherry, berry, and light spice. Five high-malt mash bills share the blend, including a roasted bill with double-roasted caramel malt and chocolate malt, so the whiskey has something dark to set against the fruit. Non-chill filtered, in batches of 8 to 10 barrels.
Fresh blackberry, cherry, dark chocolate, and brown sugar lead, on a robust, oily body. Oak and roasted malt come up underneath. The finish is lightly tannic, with grape lingering after the sweetness.
