Colonel E.H. Taylor Jr. Cured Oak Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey is Buffalo Trace’s extra-stave experiment, a limited bottled-in-bond bourbon aged 17 years in Warehouse C at 100 proof. Independent Stave air-dried the white oak for 13 months — more than twice the usual seasoning — so the barrel had more vanilla, toffee, and dry oak to give up before the whiskey ever went in. That longer cure, not a different mash, is why this one drinks oak-deeper than the small batch.
Vanilla and toffee meet dried fruit and fig, with tobacco and seasoned oak underneath. The body is dense and easy at bond strength, and the finish runs long and dry.
