Compass Box Experimental Grain Whisky is a limited blended grain Scotch — 6,142 bottles, December 2021, 92 proof — built as the smoky counterpart to Hedonism, not a malt. The experiment is a Loch Lomond parcel of peated malted barley run through a copper Coffey still, which Scotch rules classify as grain whisky, then folded into North British, Cameronbridge, and Hedonism stocks from ex-bourbon and re-charred oak. That column-still peat is herbal and mossy rather than iodine-heavy, against the fudge and vanilla of conventional grain.
Banana, toffee, and vanilla meet soft barbecue smoke, rum, and raspberry. The palate is oily with almond and pear, and burnt pine and clinging herbal peat finish the glass.
