Cream of Kentucky 7.5 Year Old Single Barrel Bourbon Whiskey
Cream of Kentucky 7.5 Year Old Single Barrel Bourbon Whiskey is Kentucky straight rye whiskey from one barrel, aged 7.5 years and bottled at 100 proof — the listing still says bourbon, the whiskey in the glass is rye. It is distilled, aged, and bottled at Kentucky Artisan Distillery in Crestwood for the J.W. Rutledge revival of the 1888 Cream of Kentucky name, not a Heaven Hill or Buffalo Trace bottling. Each barrel carries its own fingerprint; the rye grain and new charred oak are what put cherry, cola sweetness, and dry tannin in the glass. This is not the bottled-in-bond rye blend and not the small-batch bourbon.
Maraschino cherry and cola open on vanilla and orange. Caramel and roasted peanut sit over oak tannin and rye spice. The mouthfeel is sweet up front, then dries through a medium finish of pipe tobacco, pepper, and lingering blood orange.
