Dark Arts Blunt Blend Whiskey is a limited, allocated 7-year Indiana rye, 95% rye and 5% malted barley, split across Armagnac and Madeira casks and married at cask strength in Lexington. Madeira is why honeysuckle and orange show up; Armagnac is why the oak turns musty, resinous, and a little tobacco-dark; the high-rye mash is why pine and pepper stay in the middle. A generous sipper when the weather turns and the evening stretches.
Honeysuckle, honey, and orange zest open, then pine resin and rye spice take over with a thread of dried tobacco. The mouthfeel is silky and coating, and the finish is long and drying: pepper, herbal resin, caramel, then a last flash of vanilla.
