Don Julio Primavera Reposado Tequila
Don Julio's reposado sits eight months in European casks that previously held orange-peel-infused wine, and that finish shows plainly. Cooked agave leads, sweet and vegetal the way good Blue Weber should be, with honey filling in behind it. Orange peel runs through the whole pour, bright rather than candied, and soft oak keeps the sweetness in check.
It comes from the highlands of Jalisco, Los Altos, where the agave tends toward a rounder, fruitier character. At 80 proof (40% ABV) it drinks easily on its own, and the citrus edge makes it a sensible base for a paloma or a simple tequila and soda without getting lost.
A practical bottle to keep on the shelf: familiar enough for anyone who already drinks reposado, and interesting enough to notice. 750 mL.
