Double Eagle Very Rare 20 Year Old Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey
Double Eagle Very Rare 20 Year Old Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey is Buffalo Trace’s ultra-limited 20-year Eagle Rare, aged twice as long as the 10-year and bottled at 101 proof. It is Mash Bill #1 from Frankfort, Kentucky — the same low-rye recipe as Eagle Rare 10 — taken from barrels that spent two decades in the distillery’s warehouses. Only a handful of bottles are produced, each in a crystal decanter with two sculpted eagles and a numbered letter of authenticity. Twenty years in new charred oak usually dries a bourbon out; here the extra time deepens vanilla, caramel, and toasted oak without tipping the whiskey into bitterness. A strong pick for sipping with friends.
Vanilla, toasted oak, and caramel lead, then dark cherry, grape, chocolate, and dates follow. The sip is surprisingly balanced for its age: sweet oak stays in check, clove and cinnamon warm the mid-palate, and leather and tobacco ride a long finish. It drinks full and round at 101 proof, with gracefully aged oak rather than a wall of tannin.
