El Dorado 15 Year Old White Port Cask Finished Demerara Rum
Demerara rum has a character all its own: darker, smokier, more savory than most Caribbean rum, and this one takes that base in an unusual direction. After 15 years in Guyana, where the heat and humidity push maturation along faster than it would run in a cooler climate, the rum was moved into White Port casks to finish.
The result is brighter than you might expect from a rum this age. Golden raisin and honey sit together up front, sweet but not heavy, with a thread of citrus running underneath that keeps things lively. Vanilla softens the edges. Toasted nuts and warm spice arrive late and hang around after the sweetness has faded.
At 86 proof (43% ABV) it is easygoing enough for a regular pour, and the citrus lift gives it more range than a typical sipping rum. Comes in a 750 mL bottle.
