Elijah Craig 23 Year Old Single Barrel Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey is Heaven Hill's extra-aged single barrel, 23 years in new charred American oak and bottled at 90 proof. The mash is 78% corn, 10% rye, and 12% malted barley, the same recipe as the rest of the Elijah Craig bourbon line, pulled from the slower-aging floors of the rickhouse so more than two decades of Kentucky weather deepen the oak without turning the whiskey into lumber. One barrel, with the number and barreled-on date handwritten on the back label. A bottle you can open for guests without overthinking the pour.
Sweet oak and citrus zest lead, with toasted honey and cocoa behind them. Pipe tobacco and leather sit in the middle, and the mouthfeel is chewy. The finish is long and dry, still oak, still a last flicker of orange and mint.
