Foursquare 2011 12 Year Old Single Blended Barbados Rum
Toffee and coconut come through first, sweet but dry-edged, with tropical fruit sitting just behind them. Orange peel cuts across the vanilla, and the oak arrives late with a dusting of spice that keeps the whole thing from turning soft. At 120 proof (60% ABV) the texture is thick and warm, and the flavours hold their shape rather than blurring together.
This comes from Foursquare in St. Philip, Barbados, distilled in 2011 and given 12 years in ex-bourbon casks. All of that aging happened in the tropics, where heat and humidity push the spirit into the wood harder and faster than a cool warehouse ever would. It is additive free, so what you taste is the distillate and the barrel, nothing else.
Cask strength rum at this age can take a small splash without losing anything, though plenty of people drink it straight. A 750 mL bottle that earns a regular spot on the shelf.
