This is a Speyside single malt built on fruit and warm spice. Eighteen years in Spanish Oloroso and American oak casks have pulled the whisky toward the darker end of the orchard: dried fruit and dates up front, candied peel brightening the edges, baked apple sitting underneath with cinnamon and oak trailing behind it.
At 86 proof (43% ABV) it drinks easily without going thin. The texture is soft and slightly syrupy, and the spice stays gentle rather than sharp, which makes it an approachable malt for anyone who finds heavier sherried whiskies too much. Neat is the simplest way to meet it.
A 750 mL bottle, and a sensible one to keep open on the shelf rather than save for an occasion. If you already drink Speyside, this is the familiar style with more age and more depth behind it.
