Glenmorangie Milsean Private Edition Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky is the seventh Private Edition from Tain: a limited extra-matured malt whose Gaelic name means “sweet things.” After years in ex-bourbon casks, it spent further time in heavily re-toasted Portuguese red-wine barriques — a toast that caramelizes leftover wine sugars so the wood tastes like a candy shop instead of dry oak. Bottled non-chill filtered at 92 proof. Keep it for an after-dinner dram.
Ripe fruit, fudge, and sugar-coated plum open the glass. The sip is cherry drops, lemon sherbet, vanilla cream, and a thread of ginger, with candied orange peel and toasted oak on a long, warm, sugar-dusted finish. It drinks syrupy and bright, the kind of sweet Highland malt that keeps pulling you back.
