Heaven Hill Grain to Glass Kentucky Straight Rye Whiskey
Caramel and vanilla come through first, soft and sweet, with roasted nuts sitting just underneath. Light oak and baking spice keep the sweetness in check, so nothing turns syrupy. This is a Kentucky straight rye that drinks easily and doesn't ask much of you.
Four years in ex-bourbon barrels gives it enough color and grain character to taste like rye without the bite that puts some people off. At 80 proof, it stays gentle. The texture is light, the spice is warm rather than sharp, and the finish is short and clean.
Made additive free, so what you taste is the grain and the barrel. It works neat if you like a softer pour, but it really earns its keep in a highball or an Old Fashioned, where the caramel holds up against ice and citrus. Sold in a 750 mL bottle.
