Heaven Hill Grain to Glass Kentucky Straight Rye Whiskey, 2025 second edition, uses Beck's 6225 corn and a mash of 63 percent rye, 24 percent corn, and 13 percent malted barley, distilled at Bernheim in 2018. It entered new charred oak at 107 proof, aged six years in Cox's Creek rickhouses W5 and W6, and was bottled at barrel proof, 105.2, without chill filtration. The extra rye in the mash, versus Heaven Hill's traditional rye recipe, shows as orange oil, honey, and baking spice instead of a thin, sharp bite. This is a cold-weather pour.
Toasted oak and almond lead into creamy orange marmalade, chocolate, nutmeg, and white pepper. Honey sweetness rounds the middle. The finish is long and warm: crème brûlée, charred oak, and rye spice with a last of orange oil.
