Heaven's Door Straight Rye Whiskey is a 95% rye mash aged about six years in new charred oak, then finished in toasted, uncharred cigar barrels of air-dried Vosges French oak and bottled at 92 proof. The smaller toasted casks pull orange peel and coriander out of the wood faster than a standard barrel, which is why this rye drinks citrusy and round rather than only dill and pepper. Pour it in cold weather.
Orange peel and coriander ride a caramel-sweet rye spice. Ginger and toasted oak fill the middle, and the finish is long, a little syrupy, with citrus peel and warming pepper.
