Horse Soldier 8 Year Old Wheated Bourbon Whiskey is eight-year bourbon from American Freedom Distillery, founded by U.S. Army Special Forces veterans who rode into Afghanistan after 9/11. The mash is 70% yellow dent corn, 20% red winter wheat, and 10% malted barley, distilled in Columbus, Ohio, with Middle West Spirits, aged in new charred American oak, and bottled at 95 proof in glass from a mold that used World Trade Center steel. An easy evening sip.

Honey, vanilla, and lemon zest make a soft entry, with caramel, butterscotch, and a little apple behind them. Toffee and cashew fill a round, wheat-soft middle, then oak and baking spice snap on the close. The eight-year wood stays approachable, citrus-bright rather than harsh.
