Jameson Black Barrel Irish Whiskey is Midleton’s cooperage whiskey: a triple-distilled blend with a higher share of single pot still and a small-batch grain distilled only one week a year, matured in double-charred ex-bourbon barrels for about nine to twelve years. The second char is what you taste as butterscotch and toasted wood rather than a light bourbon-cask vanilla. Bottled at 80 proof. This 1.75 L bottle is built for a spirit-forward cocktail.
Butterscotch, fudge, and creamy toffee lead, with vanilla, caramel, and roasted nuts. Warm spice and toasted wood keep the sweetness in check; the finish is rich with vanilla, char, and a silky mouthfeel. It drinks smooth enough for an Old Fashioned and sweet enough to sip on a large cube.
