Lagavulin Offerman Edition 11 Year Old Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Islay makes whisky that tastes like where it comes from, and this one is no exception. Eleven years in ex-bourbon and rejuvenated American oak casks have rounded the edges without sanding down the smoke. Peat is the first thing you notice, but it settles quickly into vanilla and bright citrus rather than sitting heavy on top.
Underneath there's soft orchard fruit and a warmth of baking spice, with charred oak drying the finish out. At 92 proof (46% ABV) it has enough weight to stay clear over ice, though it loses nothing taken straight from the bottle.
This is a straightforward, well-made single malt for regular drinking rather than special occasions. If you already like smoky Scotch, it will feel familiar. If you're working your way toward Islay, the sweetness from the wood makes it an easy place to start. Sold in a 750 mL bottle.
