Laphroaig Càirdeas 2019 Triple Wood Cask Strength is the Friends of Laphroaig bottling for Fèis Ìle 2019. It follows a triple maturation — first in ex-bourbon barrels, then in small quarter casks, then in European-oak Oloroso sherry butts — and is bottled undiluted at 119 proof (59.5% ABV). That extra strength is what you taste as concentrated toffee, date, and black pepper, with sherry fruit riding in front of the peat. This annual Càirdeas (Gaelic for friendship) is a limited Islay release. Pour it over a large cube.

Leather, tobacco, lemon zest, and heather honey open, then toffee, dates, maple, and praline fill a thick palate. Independent pours keep finding campfire smoke, dark chocolate, and raisin, then a long caramel-fudge finish with black pepper. It is a heavy, sweet-smoky dram that stays readable at cask strength.
