It marries 8-year Kentucky straight rye with 13-year Canadian rye and 40-year Canadian whisky made from 100 percent corn — the Canadian lots bringing floral fruit that new-oak Kentucky rye does not. The 2018 on the label is the chapter year, not a distillation date. It is a cold-weather sip worth sitting with.
Caramel and dried fruit lead, with vanilla, butterscotch, and rye spice cutting across the sip. Leather and seasoned oak sit underneath; cinnamon and warm spice hang on a long finish. A few drops of water pull the fruit forward without flattening the rye.
