Obtainium Whisky is Cat’s Eye Distillery’s 26-year Canadian whisky: 100 percent corn spirit distilled at Palliser Distillery, aged in used rye casks, and bottled one barrel at a time at barrel strength. Decades in refill rye wood concentrate toasted corn, caramel, and vanilla. An after-dinner pour when barrel-strength corn whisky sounds right.
Crème brûlée, cinnamon toast, and caramelized sugar meet toasted corn and vanilla. The mouthfeel is thick and oily at barrel strength; hazelnut and walnut brittle ride the sip, and the finish is long, warming, with soft caramel, mint, and lingering spice.
