Octomore 15.2 Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky is Bruichladdich’s annual super-heavily peated .2 cask expression: five-year-old spirit distilled in 2018 from 2017 Scottish Mainland Concerto barley, malted to 108.2 ppm, filled into second-fill wine casks (about 42%) and second-fill bourbon casks (about 58%), then recasked in 2023 into first-fill French oak Cognac casks. Bottled at cask strength, 115.8 proof (57.9% ABV), those wine and Cognac woods are what you taste as citrus, vanilla custard, and floral sweetness around dry peat. This limited 15-series release is built for cold weather.
Sweet citrus, lime zest, and lemon meringue open the glass, then vanilla custard, caramel, toffee, and black pepper fill a viscous sip. Pear drops and dried apricot cut through the peat, with nutmeg and cinnamon in the middle, and a long maritime finish of salt spray and peat embers.
