Okayama Triple Cask Single Malt Japanese Whisky
Okayama Triple Cask Single Malt Japanese Whisky is Miyashita’s limited single malt from Okayama Distillery: two-row barley grown in Okayama Prefecture, fermented slowly at ginjo-like low temperatures, then run through German pot stills for a clear, unheavy spirit. Separate parcels rest at least three years in brandy, sherry, and Mizunara oak casks and are married together — brandy and sherry are what you taste as dried fruit and chocolate, Mizunara as sandalwood and coconut. Bottled at 86 proof (43% ABV), it took Category Winner at the 2020 World Whiskies Awards. Pour it as an after-dinner dram.
Dried fruit, red berries, honey, and vanilla lead a light, creamy sip, with coconut, nuts, and sweet spice behind them. Dark chocolate and a clean sandalwood close linger without turning heavy. It drinks gentle at 86 proof: fruit and wood in the same glass, easy to follow sip to sip.
